Youngblood christmas Party at Mrs Oorloff's Clinic, Oxforshire.

I was one of the lucky few to be invited to Mrs Oorloff's Youngblood Christmas Party on Thursday 4th December. and this gave me my first chance to discover the Youngblood brand.

Mrs Oorloff's Clinic is one of the few places in Witney that offer advanced skincare treatments and cosmetics, from face peels to Body contouring, Mrs Oorloff's Clinic has become very popular and not just with the locals, people are willing to travel to be worked on by Mrs Oorloff, Who herself has been in the industry for 28 years with International experience which include Sports therapy and within a medical setting for surgeons in the cosmetics sector.

The youngblood christmas party was a brilliant event, it was cosy and relaxed and of course we were all were very well looked after with Mulled Wine, Mince pies and Chocolate biscuits but all the food and drink aside they evening was to learn more about youngblood and what looks you can achieve.

Pauline Youngblood worked as a Paramedical Aesthetician for plastic surgeons and noticed that following surgery traditional make up brands were irritating the skin. The brand was created when Pauline noticed a need for a natural lightweight mineral foundation, 17 years later the brand is thriving with many celebrities and make up artists using Youngblood as there preferred choice. text from ybsskin.com

Kelly Wiseman - National Sales Manager gave me a fantastic make over and showed me some tricks and tips on how to create some of this seasons latest looks.

First of all my face was primed with "Minerals in the mist- Recharge" this can be used after cleansing pre make up application to help lock in moisture and/or to set your make up after application.

Personally i didn't like the smell of recharge (Mint and Ginger) but it did make my skin feel soft and fresh, so light when she spritzed my face it didn't feel sticky or wet just refreshing.

Next came the Mineral primer this helps give a good base for make up and helps with shine, pores and wrinkles, again this felt incredibly light and didn't block my pores!!!

My final product for prepping was Eye Impact quick recovery cream, this makes the eyes look less puffy and ingredients include caffeine, peptides and antioxidants, as i don't really suffer with dark circles or excessive puffiness it is unfair for me to judge how good this product was but as with everything else it was light and didn't leave the skin around my eyes feeling tight and pulled which some brands do.

The mineral make up

First Kelly applied the Mineral rice setting powder this stops the make up from adhering to the skin and almost creates a barrier, but a breathable barrier so your skin looks good but most importantly it is still given air to breath rather then sweating and causing breakouts!. I really like the rice setting powder and i did purchase this in the pressed version. (since purchasing have used everyday and find incredibly easy and quick use and my face has been oil free!!!)

The Loose natural mineral foundation in Barely Beige was then applied, again this is very quick and easy to apply and i have also purchased this. the colour works well with my skin tone, looks really soft and natural on the skin, as sometimes minerals can look quite dull and heavy.  The coverage is sheer to full depending on the look you want to achieve, As with most mineral brands you don't need to use a lot and the pot has been designed not to dispense to much, this really helps as most of us have tried to tip just a little and you end up tipping half the pot then its a mission to try and clean it up without smudging or making the mess worse! the foundation lasts a day, you could top up if you were going out in the evening which i have done on occasions, this was easy and didn't end up looking over baked or dull. The nice thing about the foundation is how it feels on the skin it doesn't feel like you are actually wearing make up, its not scratchy when applied and doesn't dust up and leave a cloud for you to walk into, didn't rub off on my clothes. And most importantly made my skin look better and i imagine over time it will actually get better.

The foundations and the youngblood cosmetic range are all paraben free and contain no talc, theres no grit or harshness when applying and its very easy to use. You can even do your foundation without a mirror! but as with any foundation its also about the brushes, i have a selection of Mac and Bobbi brown brushes which i swear by, Youngblood do also sell brushes and for those that are very lazy they even have a spray brush cleaner which dries quickly with no need to rinse.

Onto the eyes

Kelly then asked what look the other guests would like to demonstrate of course all the ladies say "smokey eyes" so the Starlet Gazer palette is picked up and I'm transformed into a glamorous lady. personally i don't like smokey eyes that strong but Kelly did a great job and spent lots of time explaining the technique on how to create the perfect smokey eye. the biggest thing to remember is to press the eyeshadow onto the eye, minerals are loose if you brush them onto the eye you won't get the minerals to stay, this is easy and it didn't feel like my eyes were being poked, just gentlly pressing the colour into place. then eye liner & Mascara were added to complete my smokey eyes.

The red lips were added to really give my make over the "wow" factor,  i really didn't like the red lipstick it was way to much, i prefer a softer colour and a little more colour on my cheeks, but Kelly was demonstrating how you can create a dramatic look using the young blood range.

I really enjoyed having the glamorous make over, but for day to day i purchased the setting powder and loose powder foundation, After using them for a week, i am finding it very quick and easy to apply, and also still able to use my favourite brands of blusher, bronzer and eyeshadow, because sometimes mineral make up doesn't work well with cream blushers but Youngblood did. I can't get my head around using mineral eyeshadow (I'm the queen of laziness and just use a colour crayon currently). With some brands you can find your skin has an initial breakout when you change your products this hasn't happened if anything my skin looks and feels better, its easy to remove at the end of the day and doesn't require 100's of cotton wool pads to do!

I am looking forward to seeing what youngblood bring to the market in 2015.

Thank you kelly from Youngblood and the team at Mrs Oorloffs

Duty free spending Bare Minerals

So as per many other woman, when traveling i can't help but be taken in by the so called bargains at duty free. I have learnt from previous experiences and i only went for make up well maybe a few skin care products.....

First of all was Bare Minerals I haven't used bare minerals foundations for along time, previously they made my skin itch and looked quite dull and dry, but when i saw this beauty at Gatwick i couldn't help but buy it!

I didn't know what to expect, so i got the kit out and i had a play.
The conclear is quite thick but as long as you remember this, it blends in easily and covers those pesky pimples! Next in the foundation its self Ready SPF 20 in R170, I can't make my mind up whether i like this or not, it hard to describe its heavier then classic bare minerals what i will say is it is messy! even though its a foundation it is still a mineral formula and as the foundation is flush finished in the set theres no lip or edge to catch the loose powder so i imagine you will waste quite a bit in comparison to the usual mineral pots. Then theres the mineral veil which you can use to touch up through the day, this is the light mineral formula so just takes the shine off your face and keeps the foundation looking matt, the best product in this kit in the bronzer,(READY bronzer in skinny dip) this blends really well and is not orange it really is as it says a bronzer, build it up to contour and define or just apply on the areas the sun would kiss, theres no shimmer or glitter just bronze!
I am not a massive fan of illuminators as i spend most of the time trying to cover shine not add more, but as illuminators go this ones ok, you don't need to use a lot, i really haven't used this so can't really tell you a lot more.

The brushes are what you tend to expect in kits, they do the job but they aren't your trusted favourite brush the mini precision brush is what you will use the majority of the time, its bristles are compact but not to tight it doesn't blend well, then theres the min tapered brush for conturing or adding more coverage.

The kit costs £39 which is a good price to try the new bare minerals solid mineral foundation. I have been trying this kit for  month now and i am really pleased i have it, as with any make up product it takes some time to get used to Bare minerals have enclosed a "how to" booklet which does help on what product goes where and best application techniques.

If you want to try Bare Minerals give this kit a go, easy to use and a great all in one kit! A must have for ladies who don't have much time in the morning!

This weeks round up Friday 14th November

This week i have been reaching for my 8 hour Elizabeth Arden lip protectant stick SPF 15, many woman swear by this and i can see why, it nourishes your lips without leaving them sticky or tacky, this was part of a set from Gatwick duty free, but i will review the other 2 coloured lip protectant sticks in the next few days, but i will say so far big thumbs up!

My good friends at Neo Elegance have informed me they have a sale coming up soon and some special offers for christmas, so keep checking the website, my personal favourite is the vitamin ampoules but be quick this is one of their best sellers.

Love me beauty my first box!

  • I have been contemplating for months whether to start a beauty box subscription, and finally i took the plunge. I choose Love me beauty as they had received some good reviews, you can choose what you want in the box, and they stocked some brands i hadn't used or even heard of so i signed up very excited!!!!

Unfortunately for love me beauty, my first box was not so simple and my excitement ended! (sad disappointed face). After selecting the products, i checked out and waited for my box to arrive. 5-7 days later still no box, 14 days later still no box? to cut a long story short my box had been held for inspection at royal mail because the box contained cosmetics? But the team at love me beauty sorted this out and my box arrived! (Happy excited face returned).

What's in the box

Weleda - Calendula Massage Oil- full size 200ml
S5- Cosmacutical Balance fluid -travel size
Malin + Goetz - grapefruit face wash - travel size
Anatomicals - No old bags eye gels - full size
So Susan - Dual brow powder - full size

The products come in a lovely canvas bag (as seen in photo) which adds a nice touch to the box so on with the product reviews........

Pretty much does what it says on the bottle, a lovely massage oil, that can be used on sensitive - dry skin, has antiseptic properties that help aid healing, with all that said i have been using the oil once or twice a week after a shower on damp skin as an all over body moisturiser when i haven't got time to slap on the cream. This is a thick oil so use sparingly a few drops will do your entire body! the smell is very subtle, slight floral and i mean slight, the only downside is a little greasy but i guess that is what massage oils are meant to be like.
Average massage oil, nice to have as a treat but wouldn't be something i would purchase again.

I was really pleased to find a cosmacutical product on offer and S5 definatly doesn't disappoint,
Source5 is the first certified organic and natural cosmacutical brand, and i am really impressed with this product, it dispenses easily, and you only need 2 pumps to cover your face and neck, absorbs quickly but without leaving your skin dry or oily, this makes for a great make up base, my face stayed matt even out in the sun in spain! i have only got a small amount left and know i need to order a new one. Best product in the box and also best moisturiser i have tried in a while. 10 out of 10 S5!

I was skeptical when i selected this face wash, but i love the smell of grapefruit and know that grapefruit works well with my skin. I took this away to Spain with me and I was so gutted that its now all gone! this doesn't over lather, but gives enough to make your face feel clean and fresh, it didn't sting or make the skin feel tight. The grapefruit face wash is Malin + Goetz best seller its effective but not harsh, the company are American and started in 2004 by Matthew Malin & Andrew Goetz who already worked within the cosmetics industry, decided to join forces and develop the brand. As with S5 i am also going to have to order more of this and i am hoping to get my hands on more Malin + Goetz goodies.

This lightweight gel not only has a catchy name, but also minimises puffiness and bags instantly! I applied a small amount to my under eye area and they no longer looked puffy, the gels colourless so you don't end up with white patches around the eyes, absorbs mega quick and doesn't leave any residue. Anatomicals are a young company trying to keep skincare and cosmetics, fun, funky and fresh. A great product that i otherwise wouldn't have known about, i look forward to trying some more of there "we only want you for your body"range.

From economical student to cosmetic developer is quite a jump, but the founder Susan Chyi decided that this was her passion, to create make up that treats and works with the skin. the 2 different colour powders make the set versatile to have real statement brows or just subtly fill in missing gaps, the brush works well with the powders, and they do last the longevity of the day. my personal preference for brows are pencils as i find them easier and quicker to apply. if your a prefer to paint rather then draw your brows then this sets for you a great price and a nice introduction to the so Susan range.

Was Love me beauty worth the money?

Monthly subscription for 6 months £71.70 so £11.95 a month to choose what i want in the box and this box had a value of at least £27!

I am really happy that i selected Love me beauty the products so far are great and they have made a real effort to find cosmetic brands that are new and exciting. watch this blog to find out whats in my next box or 4.

Another week off

So after an amazing holiday in Spain. We come home and to cut a long story short my other half managed to eletricute  himself from our fish tank. Which resulted in him being blue lighted to hospital as his heart was out of rhythm! Even though he's ok he's not well and has flu! So I will struggle to get any posts published this week as he's at home annoying me! and I like to blog in peace! But I promise some good posts next week featuring a new cosmacutical brand, a monthly beauty box and my latest finds at duty free.

Light and Dark by Leighton Denny

I was really pleased when i was asked to review the new signature scent by Leighton Denny _Light and Dark.

Leighton Denny MBE is an international expert within the beauty industry, The Leighton Denny brand is best known for its nail varnish and tanning products, but now Leighton Denny have launched a signature scent "light and dark"
image from leighton denny.com

The packaging is very sheek, with clean lines and a simple pattern finished in black and white which complements the scent perfectly. The bottle is a soft star shape and a delicate sheer cap finishes the bottle, theres no big name across the bottle just a gentle reminder on the bottom.

When the perfume is first sprayed i notice the Musk and Myrhh, then the floral tones of Lily and Gargdenia creep in and finally the freshness or Mandarin with the sweetness of peach complete the mix of Light and Dark.

Its not the longest lasting of fragrances and wears away after a few hours but there was a trace of the scent at the end of the day.
Retailing at £40 ish (depending on where you buy light and dark) its priced at the higher end of the market, which is probably about right as an established brand in the beauty industry you wouldn't expect anything less.

Light and Dark has received mixed reviews since its launch, and I'm sure it will be in a lot of ladies stocking this christmas! i wouldn't personally buy Light and Dark as its not strong enough and i prefer a fresher smell, however if someone brought this for me as a gift i would use it quite happily.

"I received this product from everything cosmetic as part of their team trial programme. Everything Cosmetic is an international cosmetic network connecting you to beauty products, services, deals, directories and competitions. Visit everything cosmetic to become part of their review team"

beauty through the ages

At school i was never really interested in history, but researching beauty through the ages has definatly got my interest now!

As famous for her love life as for her beauty, Cleopatra seemed a good place to start.

Cleopatra
Most of us have heard how she bathed in baths of milk and honey, but I was interested to read that she also like to use apple Cider vinegar as this is a form of alcohol, alcohol is widely used to help close the pores on the face it also will tighten and tone the skin, and interestingly enough it is rumoured that actress Scarlett Johansen uses this on her face as toner. Cleopatra was also a lover of fragrances and fragrant flowers most famously frankincense, Neroli and Myrrh. And Neroli is still a popular ingredient found in many products today:

  • Massage oils- said to sooth tired and ached muscles
  • Perfume- blends well with other oils and fragrances and on its own has a sweet, citrus floral smell.
  • Food and drink- (this is my favourite find) is rumoured to be the secret ingredient in Coca Cola!

The Victorians
As Queen Elizabeth came to the throne, cosmetics and make up we're thrown away, the Victorian ages were about showing your wealth, pale skin was extremely desirable as it showed that you were not out in the sun all day working, women were known to put various lotions and potions on their skin to lighten their complexion, some of which were extremely dangerous however a popular one used was Zinc Oxide still dangerous but safer then previous recipes!
It was also popular to make your own skincare from your kitchen, herbs and essential oils and not forgetting secret recipes passed down from grandparents. One of the scariest stories I read was the Victorian face peel, they would dilute sulphuric acid and brush it onto the skin, burning away the wrinkles. Another popular treatment was a beef lard face mask! I'm guessing that will by for dryer skins? Yuk! But at least after Sunday dinner the fats not gone to waste!

http://www.historyundressed.com/2010/04/victorian-ladys-toilette-by-kathleen.html

World war 1
During these tragic years it amazed me that Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden opened boutique salons. and intresntingly Vogue featured Helena Rubinstein's products as an "antidote to wrinkles and gloom caused by wartime struggles"!

So despite or the pain and suffering, beauty still carried on evolving, As George Selfridge brought cosmetics to the front of the shop in the world famous Selfridges, Woman started to discover more readily available skincare, Coco butter, Almond oil and Lanolin had now started to become available, which meant woman had more choice and options, though i imagine during the war it wasn't as easy to get hold of!
http://glamourdaze.com/history-of-makeup/1900-1919

So there you go a little taste of how woman have always been concerned about how beautiful they are, make sure you come back to read part 2 to discover more secrets of skincare

This weeks round up Friday 10th October

Dare i say it with Christmas 11 weeks away and some very lucky beauty bloggers have started to show sneak peaks of luxury beauty advent calendars, my personal favourite was pixiwoo who have got some very nice brands to review i am very very jealous, but its only right that my children should have chocolate calendars instead of Mummies luxury beauty one!!!!!
heres the link to make you all depressed and want one, (however if any of said companies would like me to review theirs i am sure i can find the time to do so)

http://www.pixiwoo.com/2014/10/luxury-advent-calendars.html

As the cold weather is starting to set in make sure you moisturise your hands as well as your face, my hands have got very dry quickly as i am swapping my usual hand cream to my L'occitane one, i do this every winter and i swear by their formula and love the different scents and limited editions so grab yours today or buy marie claire this month and get one free!

A very big congratulations to the British beauty blogger has collaborated with Marks and Spencer's on a limited edition cosmetic range which launches this month, Jane Cunningham is well established within the beauty industry and has had 4 books published to name a few of her acomplishments, her blog is great and covers all aspects of beauty from high street to high end so worth a look.

This week i have signed up to my first beauty box i opted for https://www.lovemebeauty.com
so i will keep you posted on whats in the box, which is due to arrive any day now!!

And finally don't forget to read my post on Gadgets and Gizmos part 2, where i give my honest opinion on a home use facial device

Have great weekend

Gadgets and gizmos part 2

EMS Therapy what is it and what has this got to do with a facial?

Actually lots and over the next few years home devices are going to become more readily available, easy to use and more affordable, so yes you will want to know what EMS therapy is and what results it can achieve.
It was Luigi Galvani who first discovered EMS in 1791, by moving a frogs leg using electrical current (sounds like something from a frankenstein film but stay with me)

Over 100's years and as with most cosmetic advances this was first pioneered in the medical field as a form of rehabilitation in the 1960's for athletes, to aide muscle growth/endurance or to help the muscle recover post injury.
By sending electrical pulses into the targeted muscle you can then force the muscle to contract, this has many uses as i previously mentioned.

What has this got to do with my face?

There are 42 muscles in our face, overtime these sadly will loose their firmness, this can then make the skin appear thin and less defined,

The Lovely Farrah at Neo Elegance recommend i try the Face lift pro. not only does it have EMS therapy with 4 intensity settings but they have cleverly combined this with LED therapy, put the two together and you have a very advanced home treatment.

I started using the device about 4 weeks ago, 2-3 times a week, using different LED,s and slowly increasing the intensity, and I am really really very impressed!

You can feel the muscles very slightly tigniting But it's actually very pleasant,I love LED therapy, so i switch between blue light when I feel a break out coming or my skin feels oily, purple light when I need a pick me up and a lift, and when I've had a good deep cleanse and detox I opt for yellow which is great for clearing and helps drain away impurities. I use the Bio Swiss vitamin cream which my skins loves.
My skin so far has cleared vastly, I'm less oily, my pores are shrinking and my skin feels firmer and looks like I have just had a facial. And as a busy mummy it's perfect 10 minutes 2-3 times a week A must have for any mummy!

This isn't the only gadget Neo Elegance have developed and I can't wait to get my hands on there newest product but this would be telling................

All that Jazz

I was lucky enough to receive a bee bar lotion sample at Olympia

In this little tin is a solid moisturiser, you can warm it in your hands to soften the block or just apply straight to dry areas ( heels, elbows etc...)

This can be a bit greasy if you apply too much but for those who love a natural product which you can chuck in your handbag it would become a staple essential.
i have the hawain scent which is a little sickly for my personal liking buy not unbearable by any means.
the bar contains shea butter which on its own it a great moirsuriser, All that Jazz then add golden Joba and sweet almond oil and this bar is transformed into a jam packed moisturisation sensation!

The bar costs £14.99 but i imagine this will last a long time and you won't get any wastage as you don't have to squeeze any from a bottle.

Bee bar lotion would make a lovely gift and can be added into anyones beauty bag, personally i enjoy applying my creams so this doesn't tick the box for me, but that said i will continue to use the bee bar and who knows i could end up becoming a fan.

So thank you All that jazz for my gift!

this weeks round up friday 25th September

Autum is here its official so whats going on this week!

well i have been talking hair with Stacey Johnson from Updoo on what is this seasons key essentials for hair ups.

"Wedding hair is all about accessories! Hair bands, bespoke hair clips and slides. Brides are edging away from the floral crowns and flowers in the hair now the weather is changing, and instead opting for more statement jewelled hair pieces. Plaits, Plaits and more plaits are still hugely popular! Not just for the brides but for a great party look too. Curls and softly side swept hair ups are still proving to be popular but almost 'messy' relaxed curls or up do's with much more texture seems to be the look at the moment. Almost 'undone' hair."

With this in mind i recommend you to check out some of stacey's work via link below (she's definitely going to be my hair stylist when i next go out!)
http://www.updoo.co.uk/weddings.html

Lipstick is back and with brands heading towards, the deep dark reds this season, with perfect skin thanks to the newly launched foundations ( as i touched on last week) and eye colour shades ranging from nudes to smokey eyes now is the time to update your make up bag. Im going to be bold and step outside my comfort zone and try adding a red lip to my make up bag. but you will have to come back to find out which brand i recommend.

Australian beauty Natalie Imbruglia, is launching her anti ageing skincare brand Iluka Skincare, it will be interesting to see what this range brings to the market as Australian skincare brands are few and far between and often lack the technology and science to really make a foot print in the skincare market. Maybe this is why Natalie decided to create the company?

And finally i have been addicted to using my Neo face lift pro device with thanks to Neo Elegance, i don't want to get you all too excited yet, but i am having some fantastic results so keep your eye on my blog and also on Neo Elegance they are going to be making quite an impact.

my much needed manicure

I definatly needed a manicure and i would have had to fight to get through the OPI stand at Olympia so today i finally got round to it.

i couldn't make my mind up as usual, so i went for something not like me

taupe less beach and for a bit of sparkle gaining mole mentum (I love the OPI names)
i have opted for the OPI gel as they last the full 2 weeks they claim and they don't damage your nails (and i don't have to touch my nails for 2 weeks), i did try and i have gone the whole summer without a manicure but i have got to admit i do like having my nails done. there i said it! nothing beats a salon manicure.

This photo doesn't do the colour justice it has a very slight mink tone. but heres the link for those who want to view its true colour!

Thanks to hollie at polished you've done a great job as usual

Id love to know whats your favourite OPI colours send me your pics!
